The Hindu Way – Teaching Social norms to kids

I have been using Yahoo!mail since the time Internet was introduced in India and nothing much have changed about yahoo in all these years except that now Yahoo serves us Indians more voluptuous news items and sometimes seems like teasing India’s social fabric that has grown weak and anemic in this time of freely available sexual materials on internet and mobile media. We live in India of ethics that we inherited from our religious texts like Vedas, Shrimad Bhagwatgeeta, Ramayana, Mahabharta, caste – clan’s traditions, Spiritual masters and to some extent also to the Anglo-Vedic schools where we are taught ethic lessons from primary classes through Sanatan Dharma’s Panchtantra style books. I was surprised to receive a sms from mobile service provider wherein they were inviting subscribers to watch Sunny Leone in hot avatar (aka Karenjeet Kaur Malhotra, the infamous Punjabi girl from Canadian origin, adult film actress and model). Yeah! “infamous” she is, but these days people have forgotten the difference between being goodly famous and being infamous. The dumb minds just can’t differentiate? Anything that is being said or shown in the idiot box is the ultimate truth. Yes! you might have heard about the nightly telecast of Lunar landing in USA in 1960s ? We love the culture of personal rights and level of freedom prevalent in United States but not at the cost of loosing age old wisdom of Indian culture.  Ever heard of SEO? People on Net start liking and talking about things they like, which you imagined as utterly disgusting. That is how, info bomb manipulation works. Second example of this is very clearly seen in India’s medical more aptly I say Pharmaceutical sector the medical drug industry. Every other so called “Senior Professor” in Medicine is nothing more than a brain washed Frankenstein Monster, who is being fed from medical research papers released in USA and UK. One day he will prescribe some NSAID and keep on applauding its safety and benefits in controlling the physiological disorder then as soon as a new paper is published about the same drug causing sever or near fetal adverse affects our “Senior doctor Saab” starts preaching against the exact NSAID he was betting patient’s life on. Yes, I agree not every information has a manipulative objective in it and it is a healthy thing to get yourself updated with the latest developments in the field of medical science in order to server the patients in more effective and comforting way. I was talking about Yahoo’s landing page where it serves us all kind of news to grab our attention. Some news article are indeed good information to grab. Like one article was about Credit and Debit cards and how to use these safely and securely and another was about health benefits of Beetroot salad. A few days ago, I read an article about how to answer kids when they ask about Rape etc and impart them sex education at home. The link to article : Let’s Talk About It: Fathers, daughters and the R-word
There the author of article wrote how he and his wife teach their five year old daughter about private parts of her body, who can touch her and what is “good touch” and “bad touch”. I disagreed with the author and posted my views in comments to that article.
I wrote a response, where I said :

Param Lowe : I disagree with the author of this article. His daughter is too young to understand bad touch or good touch thing. I have rather choosen to teach my niece by behaving that when she is not in proper dress or is changing cloths etc. she needs to have privacy or in her mother’s (my sister) or Nani Ma’s company, away from men of house. This behavior has set a sketch of social boundaries in her mind”.

Then another user Remiya from Mumbai city, asked clarification on my comment and she wrote :

Mr Param, I agree with you to a certain extent but I do not understand what u mean by “she needs to have privacy or in her sister or Nani ma’s company away from men.”
……do u mean women are shameless or all men are lusty wolves. So we can take away women’s freedom or teach our men to be caring and have conscience. A freely dressed women is like a wallet filled with money lying on the ground. Its a man’s values that will make him pick the wallet and pull off everything in it or leave it untouched or report it to safety.
And the best time to teach anything to a boy or girl is in their childhood, u will agree.

and to her question my reply was this

Oh dear! Do you know why there are traffic light on roads? Those are not just to control traffic jam and accidents. There is also an objective to set a social behavior among people to respect others right to use the roads equally and safely. That is what I am trying to achieve with my niece. She is now very much aware of not just her privacy issue but also about stranger’s limits/boundaries of behavior around her. This has achieved more than that. There is a level of respect and affection among us, because men who care about people and society are mostly socialists and always tries to find ways to achieve social harmony and civilized order. I hope you understand my point. God Bless You!”
